Jeong Inhye (b.1990) studied Western painting at Sangmyung University. The artist looks to nature as a painter would, taking in its deeper textures and characteristic beauty, internalizing all to be reproduced on canvas.
Jeong’s works are almost entirely-green, and that green is almost entirely leaf plants,
and those leaf plants are mainly cacti. The verdant vigor of the plants are recreated as collages in her works, arranged to burst forth with life. And in that life, the artist chose to pay close attention to the firm immutability of cacti. The unshakable, unwavering will is captured on canvas, the subjective colors and rough brushwork depict a terse sentiment.
Cacti and other greenery blooming in harmonious composition conveys a dreamlike detachment from reality. In that non-descript pause, the scenery feels close by and familiar while also fresh and foreign, warm and assuring as nature’s vitality and peacefulness.
